Youth Contest Rules

Youth (under the age of 18) will be prompted to write an essay for the Essay Contest or speech/poem for the Speech Contest.

  • The topics for Youth Contest include: The African American Experience, African American History, History of Juneteenth. 

  • Soft limit of 500 words

  • Youth are encouraged to submit speech/poem as an audio/video. Submitting as word document will not negatively affect submission.

  • Contest Submissions are open from May 11, 2022- June 14, 2022. 

  • Must complete and submit Media Release form in order to participate in contest

Essay Contest and Speech/Poem Contest will both have first, second and third place prizes amounting to  $100, $50, and $25 gift cards, respectively. Winners will be announced to PCC website and Facebook on June 19th 2022. One contestant per household. 

Family Tree Contest

Adults are asked to fill out a family tree to the best of their ability. The three people who are able to go back the most generations will be considered the winners.

  • Contest Submissions are open from May 11, 2021- June 12, 2021. 

  • Must complete and submit Media Release form in order to participate in contest

Family Tree contest have first, second and third place prizes amounting to  $100, $50, and $25 gift cards, respectively. Winners will be announced to PCC website home page and Facebook page on June 19th 2021.

Ancestral Stories 

Seniors are asked to tell us a piece of their story, a page of their history. 

  • We encourage our seniors  to submit their story as an audio/video.

  • Contest Submissions are open from May 11, 2021- June 12, 2021. 

  • Must complete and submit Media Release form in order to participate.

Ancestral stories will not  have monetary prizes. Participants will instead receive a certificate of participation and Juneteenth T-shirts.
